The water town in the north of Brandenburg

Fürstenberg - also called the Pearl of the Havel - is the heart of the forest and lake area at the entrance to the Mecklenburg Lake District. With its clean waters, the area reminds some people of Sweden. Picturesquely situated on the islands between three bathing lakes is the medieval town center of Germany's only water town. The strategically favorable location between Brandenburg, Mecklenburg and the former Pomerania made Fürstenberg a shipping and trading town for a long time. The Baroque castle in the north of the core town bears witness to the time when Fürstenberg belonged to the Duchy of Mecklenburg-Strelitz. The neo-Gothic town church, the Havel Park and the ruins of the old moated castle invite visitors to take a stroll on the main island, while the Ravensbrück memorial site revisits a dark chapter of German history. The direct connection to the Havel River is the ideal starting point to explore the fascinating surroundings by boat. No wonder the city has been a popular vacation destination since 1870.
