Hohen Neuendorf

Bee town with water tower

Active vacations right at the gates of Berlin: the town of Hohen Neuendorf with its four districts makes this possible. Whether golfing and horseback riding in the Stolper Heide, hiking on the Harzungspfad or cycling along the route of the former Berlin Wall - there is something for every taste in Hohen Neuendorf. Since the railroad connection to Berlin at the end of the 19th century, the town has been growing and this is still the case today. Thus, there are also numerous cafes and restaurants to linger in the town center and along the Havel River. The landmark of Hohen Neuendorf is the historic water tower - built from 1912 by the architect Albert Gottheiner. The most famous building is probably the impressive Sky Pagoda, which is modeled on the Temple of Heaven in Beijing. The bee plays a special role in Hohen Neuendorf: Two specimens not only greet visitors at the S-Bahn station, the State Institute for Apiology also researches the life and work of the insects here. This is how Hohen Neuendorf came to be nicknamed "Bee Town" in 2019.
