In what is probably Brandenburg's most Prussian city, visitors cannot avoid Neuruppin's two most famous sons: a walk through the classicist old town with its stately squares also leads to the Fontane Pharmacy, the birthplace of the writer Theodor Fontane. A few steps further on, in the square behind the parish church, now used as a cultural center, a monument commemorates Karl Friedrich Schinkel. The famous architect also spent the first years of his life in Neuruppin. Also worthwhile is a detour to the lakeside promenade of Lake Ruppin, the longest body of water in Brandenburg, or an excursion to one of the charming Neuruppin districts that nestle around the lakeshore. The lake itself is perfect for a paddling trip or a boat tour through Ruppiner Schweiz. And from the glittering water, the view of two of the city's landmarks is immediately even better: the monastery church of St. Trinitatis with its two distinctive towers and the 17-meter-high sculpture "Parzival".
