Königs Wusterhausen Castle was one of the favourite places of the “Soldier King” Frederick William In Prussia. The King used the Renaissance castle, which was originally a medieval castle, as a hunting lodge and residence. It was in Königs Wusterhausen that Frederick William I developed his reform plans and started to build up his battalion of bodyguards, known as the “Potsdam Giants”. There are many legendary tales about the “Tobacco Cabinet”, a group of military men and “educated merry” councillors convened each evening by the King, which informally debated questions of politics, morality and religion.
