The Wentow Canal was finished in 1732. It was used to transport wood. The canal connects the River Havel to the east and Lake Großen Wentowsee to the west. Marienthal Lock was built in 1860. The many layers of clay around Burgwall make this area, together with the river and the nearby lake, a popular spot for water tourists.
