From the vibrant centre of Berlin the hobby skippers then continue along the centuries-old canals and out into the idyllic countryside. While the Oder-Havel Canal meanders through the Barnim Nature Park, the Finow Canal makes its way between impressive industrial heritage buildings, meadows and forests.

The absolute highlight of the tour is the Niederfinow boat lift. The boat lift is strong enough to lift yachts and boats up to a weight of 1,000 tonnes and to a height of 36 metres. The Schorfheide-Chorin Biosphere Reserve promises fascinating nature observations.

Finish: Marina Gartz

How to get there:
  • Public transport: Take the RB18972 (Nauen) regional train from Berlin central station to Berlin Spandau. From Brunsbüttler Damm/Ruhlebener Strasse you take bus no. 134 (Alt-Gatow) to Haveldüne and then walk another approximately 1 kilometre (about 30 minutes).
  • Car: From Berlin via the B2 to Marian Lanke (about 45 minutes).

Route: Marina Lanke, Havel, Oder-Havel Canal, Finow Canal, Oder-Havel Canal, Oderberg, Lake Werbellinsee, Marina Gartz

On-shore outings:

  • Oranienburg: Palace and park
  • Oderberg: Inland shipping museum with historical paddle steamer

Nautical information: A charter licence is enough to navigate the Finow Canal and Lake Werbellinsee. A sports boat licence is required elsewhere.

  • Finow Canal: the oldest still intact artificial waterway in Germany
  • Commercial shipping observation on the Oder-Havel Canal
  • Lake Werbellinsee: one of the clearest lakes in Brandenburg
  • Werbellin Canal: direct link from Finow Canal via Marienwerder to Lake Werbellinsee with crossing of the Oder-Havel Canal. Closed since March 24, 2015 (diversion via the Oder-Havel Canal) (press release of the Waterways and Shipping Office)

Driving licence: A charter licence is enough to navigate the Finow Canal and Lake Werbellinsee. A sports boat licence is required elsewhere.
