A wooden ladder leads up, thick ropes hang from the mighty wooden beams, the large millstone is enthroned in the center of the mill and light grain dust hangs in the air. You can literally smell the history of the Vehlefanzer Bockwindmühle, built in 1815!

But today it no longer grinds commercially - its wings with a span of 17.50 meters are only set in motion again for demonstration purposes. As the last windmill in the district of Oranienburg, it has been restored over the past decades to become an interesting technical monument to old craftsmanship and thus preserved for posterity. The mill museum inside the mill is primarily concerned with the history of the miller's craft in the region.

It is hard to believe that in 1852 there were 2198 windmills and 139 Dutch windmills in the province of Brandenburg alone. The great "mill death" then began in the 20th century. The Bockwindmühle in Vehlefanz was used as a flour mill until 1945 and as a grist mill until 1965, before it was listed as a technical monument of old craftsmanship in 1977. In 1979 it was purchased by the district of Oberhavel. From 1982 to 1991, the mill was restored by master mill builder Hans-Jürgen Zecher from Wittenberg/Mecklenburg. From 1991 to 2007, it served as an exhibition site on the history of windmills in our region and was under the control of the Oranienburg District Museum as a show object. Extensive restoration work took place from 2007 to 2010.
