The capital was bursting at the seams and building materials were in short supply: right on cue, clay was discovered north of Berlin and the largest brick production site in Europe was established. In the heart of the town is the Ziegeleipark – the brickworks park. Surrounded by water, monuments from the industrial boom period and the unique clay pit landscape, you can set off on a voyage of discovery.

Fascinating guided tours tell you all about the tough conditions in which people lived and worked here. You can find about the historical technology used, too: listen to the hissing of the steam engine – still in working order at the Stackebrandt brickworks – and watch the gear-driven machines in the old workshops. For the best overview and valuable tips for your outing, take a trip on the Brickworks Railway Circuit Tour. Or less watch the woodlands, the old brickworks and the lakes pass by on a tour of the nature park in the clay truck railway – the “Tonlorenbahn”. Meanwhile the exhibitions and multimedia presentations “Bausteine für Berlin” in the ring kiln and “Werktätige im VEB” in the machine brickworks contain a wealth of hands-on exhibits. There’s plenty of space for fun and relaxation on the large adventure playground with rope ferry and small animal zoo, and in the picnic meadow with bathing area. And if you’re looking for an exceptional place to get together and celebrate, this is the perfect choice!
