Between Falkenberg and Leuenberg, the route takes you into the forests of the Mark. For long stretches, you walk beneath pine, spruce and deciduous trees, hardly encountering a soul along the way. The highlight of the tour is the Gamengrund, a tranquil lake landscape nestled in hilly terrain. There are two swimming spots along the way. Narrow nature trails alternate with soft sandy ground. Anyone walking here will hear mainly their own footsteps and the wind in the trees.

Length: 17.4 km, duration: approx. 4:30 h

Start: Falkenberg (Mark)

Destination: Leuenberg

Logo / route marking: Blue point on a white background

Arrival by public transport: From Berlin main station with the RE3 (Schwedt (Oder)) to Eberswalde, then continue with the RB60 (Wriezen) to Falkenberg (Mark) (approx. 1 hour)

Departure public transport: From Leuenberg Dorf by bus 887 (Werneuchen) to Werneuchen, then continue with the RB25 (Berlin Ostkreuz) to Lichtenberg, then continue with the S5 (Berlin Westkreuz) to Berlin Hauptbahnhof (approx. 1.5 hours)

Course: Falkenberg (Mark), Cöthen, Nördlicher Tiefensee, Nördlicher Gamensee, Buchsee, Langer See, Leuenberg

Description of the route / Interesting facts: The walk starts at Falkenberg station. First, follow the path up to Carlsburg, a popular spot for day trips since the imperial era. From here, the route descends into the Cöthen stream valley and the park of the same name, featuring a waterwheel beneath tall trees. Beyond Cöthen, the terrain slopes down into the Gamengrund. Where the Tiefensee lake once lay, a tranquil reed bed now stretches out. Shortly afterwards, the Gamensee glistens between the trees. Two bathing spots invite you to linger – those who wish can take a dip or enjoy a snack, before continuing through the undulating woodland.

The path remains unspoilt, sometimes narrow, sometimes wide. With the Teufelssee, the Buchsee and the Langen See, one body of water follows another. Sometimes the water lies open before you, sometimes it is only visible as a blue-green glimmer between the pines and beech trees. Finally, the route leads past a marshy area, then the forest opens up. You have reached Leuenberg. This peaceful, lake-rich stage ends at the bus stop.
