Fredersdorff in Zernikow
aufklappeneinklappen
Shortly after his accession to the throne, Frederick II gifted Gut Zernikow estate to his valet and confidant Michael Gabriel Fredersdorff (1708-1758). He let the latter build an impressive mulberry plantation of more than 8,000 trees and a silkworm farm. An impressive manor house was built in 1747. This was followed by a kiln house and brewery and later a residence for his caretaker.

Traces of the Fredersdorff Family

The gardens and avenues created by Fredersdorff characterise the image of the estate today. Twenty one trees from his time still stand in the avenue of mulberry trees between the estate and the mill on the Polzefließ stream. The manor house and silk farm have been preserved. The grave of Fredersdorff, which his widow Caroline had built in 1777, is located to the south of the village church. Portraits of the Fredersdorff family hang in the church.
