The Altfriesack lock is located on the Ruppin waterways and connects Lake Bützsee with Lake Ruppiner See via the Rhinkanal. The lock, together with the lock house and the Dutch-style bascule bridge, is a listed historic monument. The bridge over the Rhinkanal was originally built as a wooden structure in 1787 and was replaced by a steel construction in 1927. In 1994, it underwent a complete renovation in accordance with historic preservation requirements.

Lock operations usually take place every hour on the hour. Lock passages are available by prior arrangement.

Waterway hikers can also bypass the lock via the parallel canal and carry their canoes around the weir using the available canoe trolley.
