City on the Havel Zehdenick

From Cistercian monastery to brickworks district

The chimneys stopped smoking in 1991 in the Mildenberg Brickworks Park, once the largest brickworks district in Europe and now an open hands-on museum. A testimony to Zehdenick's important industrial past is the enchanting clay pond landscape along the Havel River. Here, ponds are strung together like pearls, and since the end of brick production in 1991, they have once again developed into natural biotopes in the middle of a nature reserve. In general, Zehdenick is an ideal starting point for anyone seeking local recreation by bike, on foot or on the water. Thus, several long-distance cycling, running and water trails cross the region, the nearby Schorfheide attracts as a charming natural paradise. The charming old town of Zehdenick is also worth a visit: the historic Cistercian monastery here tells of its almost 800-year history, and from the lock or the Dammhast drawbridge it is wonderful to watch boats and let your mind wander.
