The trail first meanders along the elongated eastern shore of the Gördensee. In addition to the natural swimming beach, there are numerous small access points to the water offering wide, tranquil views across the lake. Soon, the open water gives way to wetland forest. Due to the creation of an artificial outflow at the southern end, the lake is gradually silting up – a process you can observe along the path. After passing the reed belt, sedges and alders dominate the landscape, later joined by rowan trees and oaks. At the northern tip of the lake, the scenery changes to a varied mixed forest.

A connecting path, crossing a railway line and the B102 road, leads to the Bohnenländer See, which is much smaller and feels almost untouched. Only near the small hamlet of Bohnenland does the forest open up to reveal access to the water. Walking around this lake is a rich nature experience: water lilies bloom on the surface, a wide belt of reeds frames almost the entire shoreline, and provides a safe habitat for various waterfowl. On the eastern shore, the terrain rises steeply, and the narrow footpath here requires sure footing. In the shady mixed beech forest, you can gaze up at a few ancient giant trees.

After circling the Bohnenländer See, the route leads back along the connecting path to the Gördensee. On its western shore, you’ll be in good company with joggers and walkers enjoying the loop trail. Several fitness stations along the way invite you to test your agility before you return to your starting point.

Tip: At the Bohnenländer See, take a short detour to visit the “Swedish Walls” – a several-hundred-meter-long ground monument and remnant of Brandenburg’s late medieval defensive system.
