The stove and ceramic museum in Velten, established in 1905, shows the art and engineering history of the heat dispenser on an area covering approximately 900 square metres in the attic of the Schmidt-Lehmann stove factory. It provides an insight into the ceramic trade in the region with a focus on the first third of the 20th century, including the Velten-Vordamm earthenware factories with the Bauhaus ceramicists Burri and Bogler, Hael, W. E. Schade, amongst others, as well as a collection of over 500 of Hedwig Bollhagen’s ceramic objects, mainly from series production. As the starting point and end point of the German Ceramics Route, the Ofen- und Keramikmuseum stove and ceramic museum (OKM) in Velten preserves, explores and conveys the ceramic heritage of the Mark Brandenburg region.

The neighboring Hedwig Bollhagen Museum shows in its permanent exhibition a selected part of the personal ceramic estate of the ceramist Hedwig Bollhagen (born 10.11.1907 in Hannover; died 08.06.2001 in Marwitz), who wrote ceramic history with her timeless tableware forms and very characteristic decorations in the HB workshops Marwitz not far from Velten. The ceramic estate comprises about 1,600 objects, mainly unique pieces, but also samples and individual pieces by HB and her artist colleagues, friends and students. It has been given to the Förderverein Ofen- und Keramikmuseum Velten e.V. as a loan for public presentation in the permanent exhibition on the upper floor of the Remise next to the kiln factory, which was specially designed for these premises and has an exhibition area of approx. 300 m2.

The museum team offers guided tours of the Ofen- und Keramikmuseum Velten and Hedwig Bollhagen Museum for groups. Please send inquiries directly to the museum.
