The village of Köpernitz was first documented in 1463. Many years later, a water mill, an outlying estate and a sheep farm were built in the village by Jobst von Bredow, who ruled over Rheinsberg at the time. This property was repeatedly extended under the later rule of the Hohenzollern dynasty, including the addition of a brickworks and a steam-powered distillery.

The original Bredow dairy was a double-locked half-timbered building with brick infill. The building was described by the building authorities as follows: “53 feet long, 36 feet deep, 10 feet high in the shaft with mansard roof and hips. The front facade and both gable walls together with the gable are entirely solid, and the rear facade is also massively undercut up to the first transom.” This was later followed by a conversion in neo-Baroque style. Three interconnected functional houses with gabled superstructures were built which were decorated with stucco ornaments such as volutes, triangular and segmental gables, vases, spherical crowns and oculi. The present form and location of the building clearly came into being after 1900.
