Noeldchen House was originally built in 1791 and extended in 2014 with the addition of a modern annex that has been open to visitors since January 2015. With a surface area of approximately 800 square metres, the museum presents the prehistory and early history of the Ruppiner Land region as well as the history of Neuruppin from its foundation through to the present day. It is also devoted to Neuruppin personalities such as architect Karl Friedrich Schinkel and novelist Theodor Fontane. In addition, works by the Oriental painter Wilhelm Gentz are on display, as well as the famous Neuruppin épinal prints that made the town famous far beyond the borders of Brandenburg in the 19th century.

At 20 audio stations, the permanent exhibition gives visitors an insight into Theodor Fontane’s thoughts: impressions of Neuruppin, the collection at the museum of the time, contemporaries and even descriptions of the Ruppiner Schweiz provide fascinating insights into 19th century life and culture. The renowned theatre and film actor Burghard Klaußner lends his voice to the Brandenburg poet.

The neighbouring Temple Garden forms part of the overall museum concept, enabling visitors to round off their museum visit with a walk in the footsteps of Crown Prince Frederick.
