Prince Henry ordered the construction of a summer theatre in the palace park in 1758. This “Heckentheater” (“hedge theatre”) is still used as a venue for classical opera performances. The auditorium is a 750 square-metre area (the total surface area is approximately 2,000 square metres) which rises slightly to the sides and rear and offers space for approximately 990 people. Restoration has been carried out to provide an improved view of the stage. The stage backdrop consists of beech hedges.
